"All of us have wanted things to be otherwise at some point in our lives. All of us have wished for different choices, different stories, different results. Yet there’s enormous strength—and infinite possibility—in learning to love what is instead of what should have been, and one way to do this is to learn to attend, allow, and accept."

Who is the Living Well Retreat for?

This 3 day 2 night retreat is perfect for those who would like to learn a more kindly approach to living well with chronic illness or cancer. No previous mindfulness or meditation experience is necessary.

Together we will gently explore that living mindfully is a quality that we can cultivate, moment-to-moment, in every area of our lives, no matter what we are living with.

This includes the invitation to little by little gently turn towards what is present in this very moment within what is called our window of tolerance, and during our time together you will find out just how to spot it, and how to reset.

This allows us to see what our immediate experience really is, so that we can start to notice what is pleasant (so often overshadowed by challenge or difficulty) and respond more gently to what is not.

I will also help you develop skills so that if the present-moment experience feels overwhelming, you can redirect your attention to a neutral anchor to hold yourself steady. In this way, as best you can cultivating curiosity and kindness whilst practicing self-compassion.

The retreat will also enable you to nourish yourself by experiencing stillness and self-connection in a remote hillside setting in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Ox Mountains overlooking the countryside below Kesh Mountain and Knocknashee in the distance.

Please note: Mindfulness is not for everyone, no matter what you read on social media. Please Read Here to discover if the mindfulness-based Living Well retreat is right for you at this time. You may also like to read How can Mindfulness Help Me?

The Living Well retreat is not intended for the treatment of medical or psychological disorders. It is also not suitable for those newly diagnosed with cancer or other chronic illness and who are currently experiencing severe problems in these areas.

Please please contact me to discuss your particular circumstances, so that together we can explore if it is the right time for you to take part.

What to Expect

With a maximum of 12 participants, we will explore how to bring kindness and self-compassion into our lives so that we can live well. There is plenty of time to relax and renew without the need to communicate or ´do´ anything. For your comfort, chairs, meditation cushions, and blankets are provided.

The retreat includes spaciously guided sitting, standing, lying, mindful movement, and walking practices in the stunning local peat bog as we cultivate direct exploration of mindfulness and compassion. There will also be times when we practice silence together to deepen the connection to our experience, moment by moment.

In the evening there will be the opportunity to relax with a Sound Bath (Gongs) or practice Mindful Movement.

All sessions are optional.
